SEFI Annual Conference on Engineering Education - EPFL Lausanne - 02 > 05 September 2024
The SEFI Annual Conference 2024 took place from September 2 to 5 at EPFL in Lausanne and focused on how engineers can be trained to combine technical excellence with social and environmental responsibility. Under the theme of Educating Responsible Engineers, participants from all over Europe discussed how engineering education can contribute to a socially and environmentally sustainable society – especially given that technology not only offers solutions, but is often also part of complex problems. A lecturer from the Blue Engineering Seminar at TU Berlin took part in the conference and used the opportunity for an intensive exchange with colleagues from teaching and research.
The discussions focused on innovative teaching formats, the combination of specialist knowledge with ethical reflection, and the inclusion of social and human science perspectives in engineering education. The Blue Engineering approach was presented as an example of student-driven, interdisciplinary, and value-oriented teaching. The discussions provided new impetus for cooperation and showed ways in which responsibility, sustainability, and social justice can become even more integral to the self-image of future engineers.
